Description

A random plot I came up with today I needed to get out of my system.
She grew up hearing stories about them.
"Be good little princesses," the maid used to say as she tucked them in, "and there will always be a knight in shining armor on the other side, protecting you." Evangeline, second heir to the throne of Faelenasa, often imagined what her knight must look like.
Shamira, or Mira, to his friends, was not at all thrilled to be born into a line of guardians.
"It's part of an ancient pact, kept for centuries!" his mother insisted. "In exchange for help defeating the dragons, the elves made our ancestor take an oath that everyone born to the Mallinack line would be trained to shelter and serve their royal family should anything happen!" Mira ignored his parents, denying the existence of fairies. He considered the fencing and special training they made him take as bragging points for when he was with his friends.
He grew up, repressed his talents as an artist to become an accountant for a large corporation, and lived his life as if there was no possibility that a royal elf could drop from the sky and into his promised protection.

One night, Evangeline was jostled from her sleep and ordered to put on the clothes they gave her.
"There is a conspiracy in the castle!" they hissed. "You and your family needs to get out, now! We'll come back for you when it's safe!" She was pushed, half-asleep, through the portal to the mirror world and onto a strange doorstep.

The following day was Sunday. When Mira opened the door the to get the paper that morning, there was a small girl sleeping on his stoop. She was cute. He's always had a weak spot for cute things. He crouched on his haunches and poked her gently.
"Hey, you can't be here. Did you run away from home? Maybe we should--"
The girl's head tilted toward him and her eyes fluttered open. They were as blue as forget-me-nots, and foggy from sleeping. She had a young woman's face. Her ears were long and pointed.
"N--Knight?--" she murmured.
He fell backward, stunned. He could barely stutter out,
"F--f-f-fairy?!"

I know, the picture doesn't match exactly, but I liked the thought of her in a box like a lost kitten.
These two have been bugging me for a while.
