Deviation Actions
I put this journal under "Deviant events" or something. It is that, right?
Anyway, I joined DA officially 7 years ago, in my sophomore year of high school (wow). I think I found it when I was looking at art online and followed a link, really I'm not sure. I think I lurked for a while before getting an account, mostly because I had no way of contributing, so I didn't see the point.
I think I deleted my first art pieces from DA out of shame, but here's the oldest piece I could find, from January 2008.
I can see the artistic youth.
About this time I started my first webcomic, Netherworld, which unexpectedly gathered a little following. I had a lot of fun talking with people about my art: as a loner, as a lot of us are, the interaction invigorated me. Art had never been interactive for me before, and I loved it. Even though I didn't have any fancy digital equipment or a good scanner, I made a lot of material in this time.
In mid 2009, I got Photoshop and a tablet, and the quality of art from me went up, I think. I also got a lot more attention because of the colors and the fanart.
Around the same time, I started writing Landlocked.
I'd written fanfiction before, but never planned anything out (hence all the failed webcomics and fanfics), and never written about something that was such a big part of my childhood. The fanfic garnered a HUGE audience by my standards, and inspired a lot of art and fics from other artists. I even sold hard copies (though I did not make a profit). It is, to this day, one of the most exciting periods in my artistic life.
(Ariel/Jim art JUST BECAUSE.)
Somewhere in here I started offering paid commissions, which really helped me to grow as an artist.
Full-size to shout out to ALL those who commissioned me. Thanks so much!
After Landlocked, I became more interested in creating original content and became disillusioned by fanart. By that I mean, I saw creating fanart as a waste of time, though I loved drawing it and looking for it. Instead, I tried to start and failed to finish several projects.
I also got caught up in college, and so art production from me slowed down a bit, nearly coming to a stop after I graduated from college. I lost connection with a lot of my watchers, due to stupid computers, school, and lack of motivation, and I feel bad about that.
Now I'm looking forward to growing myself as a serious artist, and DA is an important part of that. It grounds me by reminding me that I'm not the best, and the people I should aim to impress are MY audience, not "important" people with incongruent interests to mine. The community also challenges and encourages me, and I cherish every interaction, every comment, I receive. Thanks so much for 7 great years, you guys. Here's to 7x7 more.

I'm officially leaving DA
I'm not leaving for a negative reason, I have only positive, nostalgic memories for this site. But I've drifted, and as I'm making a career change and do not seek to be a career artist anymore, I'll be producing less art. I am not deactivating the account, though. I don't want to lose any of the art here: it's a part of my history, a history I'm not very good at remembering. If you're interested in keeping up with me, I'm most active on tumblr (@iesnoth), and to a lesser extent on instagram (@iesnothsart). If you'd like to commission me, please leave an inquiry through this form. If you are curious about prices, they are here. Thank you for all your support over the years. This site and the people on it have done so much to shape my art style and interests, and were such a comfort during my lonely teen years. (At time of recording this, I've been on DA for 15 years. That's half my life!) I hope this site continues to be a safe place of growth and friendship for young artists.
My art tablet is funded! :)
EDITED (as in, rewritten) My art tablet broke, but due to amazing people from all over the internet, the new one has been funded! If you'd still like to support me, my commissions will be open as soon as I get the new tablet, though I do have a couple people already in the queue.
I don't know what to do next.
Having finished my comic, which I’ve been working on for about 6 years on and off, I’m not sure what to work on next. It’s not for a lack of ideas, but I’m not sure what to focus on. So here’s the down low, if you’d like to give some advice. Finish my Beauty and the Beast book. I’ve been writing a novel for a long time about an overweight Beauty character dealing with bigotry who finds solace with the Beast. However, I’m having a really hard time solidifying the Beast character, which is the make or break part of a BatB adaptation, imo. Also, the way I’m writing them now, they more naturally become friends, not lovers. A platonic BatB would be awesome, but it’s not what fans of the historically romantic story come for, and not what I set out to write. Do another short comic around a short story I wrote in college. It’s about a tree who doesn’t want to be a tree, and becomes involved with a witch. The tree is the antagonist. This one would be more experimental, as the tree is just--
Fissure is finally finished! (link inside)
My webcomic is finally finished!!!! I’ve entered a short comic contest on Webtoons in order to finally finish my Little Mermaid in space adaptation which has, to me, become so much more. You can read it here. If you’d like to help me win the contest (which is partially based on popularity), please make a free account and follow the comic and leave a like if you can. If you need more convincing, here’s my teaser: Sterling, a retired astronaut, is struggling to find his way in life when a woman who looks like his dead daughter turns up on his doorstep. Who is this mysterious stranger? Is she the key to salvation he wasn't looking for? Or is none of this a coincidence at all... I’ve been working on this comic for years, as some of you know. It’s a lot like giving birth, finally having it out in the world. Again, please go read it if you’re interested in mermaids, or sci-fi, or comics. After all, what is art without an audience? If you have any questions about the work, I’d love to answer

You are an inspiration for me! Your Artemis Fowl fanart was some of the first art on this site I really loved and it's fantastic how much your skills have developed since then! Keep being amazing
